#PrayForMH370 The Story

#PrayForMH370 The Story

The incident happened on 8 March 2013, Saturday. The flight, MAS (Malaysia Airline System) Boeing B777-200 aircraft tagged as flight MH370, was from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, suddenly when missing when it did not make its landing nor did it report of its delay to the air traffic control tower. It was believed that the plane went missing somewhere in the Vietnam airspace where its transponder signal when dark and all communication were cut off. I know that this incident happened about 21 days ago, which almost a month, but because they have yet to found the whole plane (the news only report the suspected debris though they have yet to confirm it) so I didn't write anything because I don't want to jump into assumptions or conclusions on a false premises. But because its already almost a month, the survival rate of the passengers and crews alike, have reduced from thin to almost nil. Its been too long, and even if there are survivors out there, especially if they crash into the ocean, they would have drifted by the ocean wave far away from the point of crash site. So here I would like to post some chronological story of some sort, from my point of perspective, as a sign of tribute to those who may or may not lost in the crash incident.

[Movie] Gravity

[Movie] Gravity

Gravity is a 2013 science fiction thriller movie. Directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Alfonso Cuaron. Technically, this movie is like the 300 film, except its in future space and much much more less bloody. But yes, over 80% of this movie is comprised of CGI.

The plot of this movie is actually pretty simple. As simple the movie title. It about gravity, but instead of on Earth, the story take places in the orbit of Earth. The movie is starred by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Yup, only the two of them. There are other actors as well, but they only do the voice acting. Like the mission control voice, and that goofing around dude that will lose his face right at the start of the movie. The movie is quite simplistic, but still thrilling. Why? I'll tell you why.

[TV Series] RM Episode 189

[TV Series] RM Episode 189

Running Man episode 189 is the continuation from the previous episode in Australia. In this episode, well, they had fun diving in the sea, playing kanggaroo and had wild night. Thanks to Haha pool party, they are all soaked wet at that night, and pretty beat up tired.

They probably going to be sound asleep, or would they? Before the nightfall, when they all arrived and gathered together at the villa, the production team gave each team 2 small camera for their own use. Just in case you know, they wanted to film themselves because their VJ won't be able to film 24/7. They are also human, they need rest as well. So this week episode starts with a sneak peek behind the scene, by Lee Kwang-soo and Haha. Their first target, is the one and only Running Man member that loves sleeping naked, Gary.

[Movie] Machete Kills

[Movie] Machete Kills

Machete is back in Machete Kills. Machete Kills is a 2013 action comedy written and directed by none other than Robert Rodriguez. The movie includes an amazing rows of actors and actresses, because, why the hell not? Danny Trejo returns as Machete, the ex-agent of Mexican Federal Police. Other casts includes Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Tom Savini, Billy Blair, Electra and Elise Avellan, Felix Sabates, and whole bunch of the series newcomers which are Mel Gibson, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Lady freaking Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Hudgens, Alexa Vega, William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and not to forget, Charlie motherfucking Sheen as well.

Even though this movie receives mixed critics, and some even downright negative, it is still entertaining none the less. Probably because the movie was intended to be pure fun house. The story takes place right after the first prequel, Machete. And it was based on the fake trailer included in the film Grindhouse. So what is so fun about this movie?

[Movie] 47 Ronin

[Movie] 47 Ronin

47 Ronin is a 2013 American fantasy action film. It was kind of a movie that have epic sneak-peek trailers, only turned to be disappointing when you get to watch it. Yup, I'm not even going to sugar-coat this one. The movie is loosely based on the Forty-Seven Ronin tale from Japan. The tale of of the forty-seven ronins was widely accepted as part of the Japan's history in the era of Genroku, although due to the censorship laws imposed at that time, causes the story to be fictionalized and popularized with the playwright (kabuki and bunraku).

Then, the Hollywood got their hand on this one. First of all, Japanese do loves fictionalizing their historical or mystical tales. They have tales rewritten in a steampunk world, magical planets that resemble Earth, and even a complete alternate reality full of 'what if', like the Space Battleship Yamato animation (the battleship Yamato is a real life battleship, except in the cartoon it goes to space fighting aliens).

So yeah, reboot rewritten stories in Japan is quite common. So common its quite mind-boggling, really, that this movie didn't perform as good as I thought it would be. It was dull, almost lack of any emotions. There are loves story included in this movie, and some variations from the original tale. Namely the witches, demons, slave-trafficking pirates, and a weird looking dragon. But hey, its a fantasy action movie, so why the hell not? But does the variations from the original plot makes its a better tale? Click read more to know more, 'cause its about to get personal.

[Movie] Free to Play

[Movie] Free to Play

Free to Play is 2014 documentary movie produced by the Valve, about 3 professional DOTA (Defense of the Ancient) player and all the events surrounding them during The International DOTA 2 Championships tournament of 2011.

If you were wondering what kind of movie this would be like, the closest example would be like The Social Network movie or, probably like National Geographic or something. Haha, what do you think it would be like? Its a documentary movie, not some re-boot re-enacted Hollywood movie.

The story revolves around three pro gamer from 3 different country. Hyhy from Singapore, Dendi from Ukraine, and Fear from the United States. The cast is the real person, this is more like a peek into the life of a gamer who turn their hobby into a career. In fact, I'm pretty sure what this movie intended to do, to expose and to raise awareness on the existence of e-sports. No, no, not the ESPN. That would be the Entertainment and Sport Programming Network.

The e-sports is also known as the electronic sports. A term coined for the organized video-game competition, which actually not a new thing in the video game culture. But usually, such activities are hosted in your friends house where the loser would need to pay for pizzas and beers. Fortunately for us gamer, the world have moved forward, in the name of globalization ,and more and more people could join in a dedicated hosted games, making it feasible for video games to be organised at international level. And the winner, will get more than just some cash to pay for pizzas and beer kegs.

There is a lot of e-sports tournament in the recent years. There are World Cyber Games, Evolution Championship Series, Intel Extreme Masters, and many more in the arena internationally and possibly locally as well. I don't know you guys, if you a gamer then you might want to check you neighborhood for such competitions. You might want the opportunity to further expand on you 'career', professionally. I'm just saying.

For this movie, Free to Play, it revolves around The International DOTA 2 Championships, hosted annually and first began its prestigious event on 2011. The same year when this documentary was made. It means that by now, there are 2 more of this tournament that been hosted, in 2012 and 2013 respectively. In 2014, they are rumored to be hosted in mid-July in a place that have yet to be revealed. Story has it, that they are looking for a bigger place. Hmmm..

Why is that?

[TV Series] RM Episode 188

[TV Series] RM Episode 188

Running Man episode 188 takes to the Australian continent this time. After they got themselves soaked wet in the previous episode crossing the Han river, this time they are going to get even more than just soaked. Yes, in Australia, country of wildlife, home to the Great Barrier Reef, obviously it wouldn't be enough the Running Man would be running around in a building only. No! The mother nature is calling for them all... Yes! And the guests for this episode would be Jung-Ji-hoon (also commonly known for his stage name as 'Rain') and Kim Woo-bin. You know what else that makes this episode to be exciting? Ji-hyo won't be around. That right, there can only be one meaning. The Running Man will have the run of their life. The teams were split right at the beginning of the show, 2 persons per team. Kwang-soo and Rain, Jae-suk and Woo-bin, Haha and Jong-kook, and Gary is with Suk-jin hyung.

The main game would be 'Finding the Four Elements'. After they are split into groups, they were given a bunch of card to choose that would decide their element, individually. But they won't know what they choose, and to know what their or other member's element, they would need to win the subsequent game that will follow. We all know where this would lead to, tag-ripping game at the end. But oh not today, today is reserved for finding the hints for the elements. So lets get moving!

[TV Series] RM Episode 187

[TV Series] RM Episode 187

Another episode where they doesn't have time to come with complex game, so they end up making something simple but filled with hardship. Even at the start of the show, it was revealed that at the end of the day, all of the Running Man wold be rowing across the Han River.

But don't be disappointed. You see, this episode is right before Running Man get to go to the Australia episode which would be on 188 and 189. So its understandable that on this episode 187 would be this simple. The production crews were probably preparing for the special episode abroad. So, would this episode would be any less fun than the previous or the upcoming episode? Pfftt.. are you insane, the Running Man members rowing across the Han river, i wouldn't miss it for the world. It is going to be super hilarious. I just know that this show will not disappoint me!! Go Yoo Jae Suk hyung!!

Star Trek Girl - The Booby dance

Star Trek Girl - The Booby dance

Have you guys ever watched the Star Trek Girl music video? It was sung by Teresa Violet a.k.a Meekakitty. I manage to get my hand on the video while it was still around, because you see, something happened between Teresa Violet and Ray William Johnson causing the video to be removed without any explanation.

Well, if you followed their vlogs and their progress as Youtube celebrities, you'll know exactly what happened back then. But it is not important, I'm not going to write about them, no. The music video, the song was quite catchy enough for me, but then again, so does every other auto-tuned techno music anyway. And in the midst of the music video where Tessa tried her best to dance to attract and fulfill every other nerdy Star Trek fan ever, someone at the back just, whoosh, stole her thunder. For the whole video, I can't help but watching her.. she is on the left side of picture behind Teresa. What is she doing at the back?

Who is Bruno Manser?

Who is Bruno Manser?

Bruno Manser is an environmental activist who were born in Basel on 25 August 1954. He spend some years living and working on Swiss alpine pastures and took an interest in speleology, therapeutics, and handicraft. He was inspired to live a life without money, led him to travel to Borneo with the aim of 'getting to know people who still living close to its origin.

Bruno Manser was well known in Switzerland for his public activism for rainforest preservation and the protection of indigenous peoples. He is commonly known for his open and international protest for Sarawak indigenous people, especially the Penan. He made a richly illustrated notebook during his stay with the Penan people during his stay in 1984 to 1990, in the jungle of Sarawak, Malaysia.

The Penan people of Sarawak is among the last groups of people on Earth to still be living as nomads in the primeval forest. They have been struggling to maintain they way of life and often endangered by the encroaching logging activities. Bruno helped the Penan people to resist the loggers and teach them how to make barricades to hinder the logger advances. In time, he became the international mouthpiece for the threatened nomadic forest dwellers.

He is also one of the founders of the Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), with the helps of his friends. It was founded in 1991 after the return of Bruno from the rainforest. In 1992, Bruno published a book titled, 'Voices from the Rainforest' and held numerous lectures to attract attention from various groups.

One of his many spectacular protest was the 60-days hunger strike in front of the Swiss federal parliament building in Berne in 1993 to protest against the import of tropical timber and to promote the  introduction of mandatory declarations for timber. He even made a landing by motorised hang glider next to the residence of Sarawak's Chief Minister in the capital of Sarawak, Kuching, in 1999 to show his determination. Even though his actions earned him a great deal of attention in Switzerland and abroad, Bruno however was declared persona non grata in Malaysia and had to leave the country with a bounty of $40,000 on his head.

Bruno Manser and Along Sega.
Bruno Manser was quite popular with the Penan people, earning him the name of 'Lakei Penan' (Penan Man). During his stay in Sarawak, he lived among the Penan people and was known to have a Penan mentor named Along Sega. Together, they fought for the recognition of the indigenous people land rights to their ancestral forest territories.

However, Bruno Manser actions had no real significant successes in Sarawak itself. Sarawakian government still proceed with its short-sighted and destructive policy that caused less than 10% of Sarawak's original primeval forest remained.

Bruno Manser kept on going back and forth from Switzerland and Sarawak to visit the Penan people, until he went missing on the year of 2000. He was last seen in May 2000 in the isolated village of Bario in Sarawak. His last know message was letter mailed to his girlfriend on 22nd May of 2000 from the village of Bario in the Kelabit Highland of Sarawak.

Several search parties went looking for him but remain fruitless. Finally, on 10th March 2005, a civil court in Basel of Switzerland, officially declared him to be missing, presumed to be dead. Bruno Manser's adoptive father and mentor, Along Sega, was known to express his sadness over the disappearance of Bruno. Without Bruno, Along Sega would have no choice but to continue his people's struggle to attain back their ancestral land right without the chance of ever attracting the international attention.

In 2nd February 2011, the iconic paramount leader of the last nomadic Penan group in the Upper Limbang region of Sarawak, Along Sega too passed away at Limbang hospital due to strong pains in his legs. The late Penan leader too was never able to track down the missing Bruno Manser, despite the reputation of Penan people of great skills in tracking and hunting. The late Along Sega however did mentioned that the day that Bruno Manser went missing, there were many helicopters in the Batu Lawi area. That was around the same time as the opening day of the Mulu National Park in Sarawak.

Even with the loss of Bruno Manser and Along Sega, the Bruno Manser Fund still continue the work of Bruno Manser until today.

[Movie] The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

[Movie] The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games second installment from the trilogy, Catching Fire, is a 2013 science fiction adventure film. Based on the novel series, the story revolves around Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), tributes from the 12 District of Panem. They won the 75th annual Hunger Games together, quite a feat considering they both won where the game should allows only one winner.

[Movie] Dredd

[Movie] Dredd

Dredd is a science-fiction action 2012 film. Its actually Judge Dredd movie, but they just put Dredd because it would be awesome that way. This movie is sequel (prequel?) to the 1995 Judge Dredd movie starred by Sylvester Stallone. I think the timeline for this movie would be backward, because the 1995 movie had flying vehicles, but this one does not. Probably the timeline is during the early times of Dredd's law enforcement career.

In case you are not familiar with the Judge Dredd story, the plot takes to the post-apocalyptic world. Where the nuclear war have long past and humanity clumped and survive together in whatever places that is not irradiated by nuclear radiation. Since there are only a few places suitable for living, hence one of the human surviving city came into being, Mega City One. One big dystopic megalopolis. From Boston to Washington D.C, over 800 millions inhabitant.

[TV Series] RM Episode 186

[TV Series] RM Episode 186

Episode 186 would be a new race. A race that all the Running Man's fan can aspire to. This time, they would be racing and compete to be the Seoul's Face. As in the representative of the South Korean culture.

I don't know whether the race is actually redundant or not, considering that being the Seoul's Face would pretty much like being the Hallyu (Korean Wave) star. Aren't they all already Hallyu stars, no? Of course they are. Anyway, for this episode, the guests are Shim Eun-kyung and the CNBlue rock band (Jung Yong-hwa, Kang Min-hyuk, Lee Jong-hyun, Lee Jung-shin). Yong-hwa seems really loves to come down and play with the Running Man. This would be like, his tenth appearance.
