[Movie] Let's get 'Dumb and Dumber To'
Yes, the sequel to the 1994 'Dumb and Dumber', this movie is long overdue. Released on November 2014, its have 20 years since I last saw the dumb duo. Interestingly enough, the stars of this movie are the same people, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. And directed by the same directors, the Farrelly brothers. From 20 years ago. I wouldn't say the movie is bad, but it wasn't great either.
So the plot revolves around the original one, Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) embarked on a journey. And this time, they are to look for Harry's daughter Which Harry never knew he had, but remembered when he had to find his blood relative for his urmm.. kidney transplant. Also, Harry was adopted and his real parents were long dead. Anyway, Lloyd had played a prank on Harry where he pretended to be in a catatonic state, that lasted for 20 years.
But pranks aside, Harry got a real problem, his kidney is failing. So onward they go, Harry had this postcard from a woman named Fraida Felcher (Kathleen Turner), a sexy bombshell, well, in her youth, but nonetheless told Harry in the postcard that she's pregnant with his child. Also the postcard was sent to him about 20 years ago and Harry never replied to it because he thought it was unimportant. Well, he have kidney problems now, and the child could have grown up because, well, its been 20 years, so now daddy's coming home.
Fraida told them that she had put the child for adoption. So the duo had to find the family that adopted the child. Problem is, Fraida tried to contact the adopting family in the past, but her letter was rejected and was told never to contact them again. Well, Lloyd and Harry promised Fraida that they will help her to unite with her daughter back again. Also, Harry can get his kidney transplant too. So its a win-win situation, I think.
Now, here's the thing. The movie was funny. Of course, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, But the first 'Dumb and Dumber' movie was 20 years ago, and this movie here did a lot of reference on the first film. Well, of course, because this movie is a direct sequel. But I feel like the opening or about the first 5 minutes, its kinda confusing and a bit disorienting. For example like, who's Fraida? Oh yeah, that right she's not on the first film.
But that's the thing. If you had watch the first film, well, you gonna find yourself in a hard time memory jogging. I don't recall something bad happen to Lloyd, honestly, that would put him into a catatonic state, well Mary from the first film did reject him and the depression could have caused that, but I pretty sure the duo was okay at the end of film because they were playing game of tag.
And that was me, who had watched the first film. Anyone who haven't watched it for past 20 years, probably would have left clueless. Well, who haven't watch 'Dumb and Dumber'? I'm sure everyone had watch it at least once. But wow.. 20 years? Is it really have been that long?
What I find amazing is that they stay true to their characters. No much changed from the first film, so if you enjoyed the first one, you'll enjoy the second one too.
