Happy New Year, 2015
Happy New Year 2015 and- Oh well, I know its a bit too late. Its 2015 and almost February. I also wanted to wish for Merry Christmas but that ship have long sailed. I've been busy, though I have a lot of things to write about. Lots of thing happened in the span of time since November last year.
Just recently, a French satirical weekly news magazine called Charlie Hebdo, was attacked by 2 Islamist extremist gunmen, killing 12 of the staffs and wounded 11 others. Apparently the magazine published controversial edition revolving about Islam. Being a satirical magazine publisher, Charlie Hebdo is known for mocking everyone and everything.
The attack however, was not its first. In 2011, the company's office had been fire-bombed and its website hacked, when they published an edition of 3rd November 2011, named "Charia (Syaria') Hebdo" with a cover featuring prophet Muhammad cartoon.
Now, I support freedom of speech and liberty and all those stuff, but I suppose sometimes there is a fine line that you just doesn't cross. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not condoning those attacks. Those atrocities was even worse than what Charlie Hebdo did with those cartoons.
Ironically, Charlie Hebdo news magazine print out increased exponentially, from 60,000 copies to millions of copies by now. Honestly, I've never knew much about Charlie Hebdo news magazine other than they created an uproar years ago for reprinting the offensive cartoons. But now with the extremist attack, Charlie Hebdo had gained recognition more than ever.
Crime committed, lives lost, but the true highlight here is whether or not we have learned our lesson.
Happy new year to everyone, may this year will be much more kinder than the last
As for some people, that time may never come, for the burden had always been for the living.
