[Tutorial] Maxis Internet/MMS setting
Maxis Berhad is also one of the largest telecommunication company in Malaysia. Also possibly the only integrated communication service provider in the country, with Telekom Malaysia as their rival. They have extensive range of communication products, applications and value added services. Their most famous brand is the popular prepaid brand 'Hotlink'.Notorious for charging obscure items in their customers' bill, most people would say Maxis services are expensive. They were also allegedly involved in the Aircel scandal, an Indian mobile network operator headquartered in Chennai. But Maxis is comparable to the giant telecommunication goverment-linked company such as Telekom Malaysia, where Maxis was the one that launched 3 of the Malaysian first satellites, MEASAT 1, 2, and 3. While Telekom Malaysia is the backbone for earth satellite and land cables in Malaysia. No wonder Maxis charges are quite pricey.
Although Maxis OTA (Over-The-Air) services support most of the smartphones out there, the Internet setting delivered via messaging services could prove unreliable. Not to mentioned, if you doesn't watch properly what have been set by the OTA, you might end up paying quite a hefty data charges. So its better for you to check it manually. The setting would be something like this:
You know the drill, in your smartphone or tablets, its in the system setting, network setting, or mobile setting, what have you. What you are looking for is something called APN, or Access Point Name.

As you can see, Maxis Internet/MMS setting have 2 version. One is for 2G, while the other is for 3G. So you need to check on your phone brands, subscriptions and such, to know which one you'll be using. If you entered the wrong setting, then you won't be able to surf the internet.
Again, if you wanted to boost your internet speed or bypass bandwidth cap, fiddle with the proxy server address and proxy server port. You'll notice that port used here is 80, different from Celcom which is 8080. But both port actually used for HTTP traffic, or surfing the web. Port 80 is the default port, but port 8080 is for accessing server behind a firewall and doesn't allow passing TCP port below 1024.
